ISTANBUL - Finance Minister Kemal Unakitan said on Friday, ''interest rates will decrease soon. Then, U.S. dollar will get the place it deserves.''
Responding questions of journalists, Unakitan said, ''first, interest rates will decrease soon. Then, U.S. dollar will get the place it deserves.''
Recalling that the Central Bank in Turkey had had an independent structure, Unakitan said, ''the Central Bank has become independent for the first time in the history of the Republic. Its foundations were laid during the previous government. Our government has been maintaining it. The Central Bank determines monetary policies independently. It also sets interest rates in line with future expectations.''
