ANKARA - Interior Minister Abdulkadir Aksu said about Tuesday morning's explosion in a cafe in Kizilay Square of Ankara, ''Sengul Akkurt was probably a person who could be used as a suicide bomber. The bomb went off as she was strapping it to her body in toilet of the cafe.''
Responding questions of journalists at Ankara's Esenboga Airport after his arrival from northern province of Trabzon, Aksu said, ''as you know, an explosion occurred in a cafe in Kizilay at about 9.00 a.m. Security forces found body of a woman in toilet of the cafe. Fingerprints of the woman were compared with about 10 million fingerprints in the laboratory. She was identified as Sengul Akkurt, who had been born in Malatya in 1977.''
''Security forces also found out that Akkurt had been a member of the terrorist organization Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C). A full investigation into the explosion has been continuing. She was probably a person who could be used as a suicide bomber. The bomb went off as she was strapping it to her body in toilet of the cafe,'' he told reporters.
Responding a question, Aksu said that security forces found two batteries and an explosive substance in the scene of the explosion.
When asked whether or not Akkurt had been planning to stage the action in another place, Aksu said, ''probably. Maybe she would strap the bomb to her body in the cafe and then leave for another place.''
