KRUEGER: ''I TOLD ERDOGAN NOT TO DELAY THEIR MISSION''
International Monetary Fund (IMF) First Deputy Managing Director Anne Krueger wrote a report to IMF Executive Board following her contacts in Turkey. She said, ''I warned Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and ministers not to delay their mission.'' Krueger informed IMF Executive Board members regarding her contacts in Turkey in a meeting. She said that the contacts of IMF Turkey desk in Ankara on May 21 were very important.

DID BUSH FORGET OR WAS IT ON PURPOSE?
U.S. President George W. Bush's not sending a congratulatory message to Turkish Parade in the U.S. caused speculations during such a cold atmosphere in Turkish-U.S. relations. After the first reactions as ''White House forgot Turkish Parade this year'', Bush administration's not sending a message on purpose was brought onto agenda. It was considered that the United States expressed its uneasiness about lack of Turkey's support in Iraq war, through this way.

IT IS NECESSARY TO GIVE HOPE TO YOUNG PERSONS
Prof. Dr. Tosun Terzioglu, the Rector of Sabancý University said that he was very sorry and worried for leaving of the well educated citizens in order to go and live abroad. ''The only thing that can end the future of this country is to end the hopes of young persons,'' he said.

'OUR PLANE WAS HIT'
The Then Naval Forces Commander General Ahmet Corekci confirmed the claim that a Turkish F-16 was hit by a Greek jet in Aegean in 1996. Corekci said that ''Greeks removed all the evidence.''

GUL HARSHLY CRITICIZES DENKTAS
During the Justice and Development Party (AKP) gathering in southern Antalya province, Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul harshly criticized TRNC President Rauf Denktas.''While Palestinian children defend their own country with sticks and stones in their hands, people living in TRNC protest their own leader. This means there is something wrong in this issue.''

KAHKONEN TO COME TO TURKEY FOR LAST TIME
IMF delegation will come to Turkey for the fifth review tomorrow. The delegation headed by IMF Turkey Desk Chief Juha Kahkonen is expected to start studies tomorrow and stay in Turkey till the beginning of June. Iranian Rýza Moghadam, who will take over the post from Kahkonen will start to come to Turkey for the sixth review.

GUL CRITICIZES DENKTAS
Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul accused TRNC President Rauf Denktas who rejected the opening of religious schools in TRNC when the coalition government between the True Path Party (DYP) and the banned Welfare Party (RP) was in power. Claiming that the national conscious was not developed significantly in TRNC due to that fact, Abdullah Gul said that ''Turkish Cypriot people protested Denktas as there was no unification with Greek Cypriots. We could not give this national conscious to Turkish Cypriot people.''

DENKTAS'S SECRET SHAKES SOUTH CYPRUS
TRNC President Rauf Denktas said after 36 years that the Greek Cypriot leader Tassos Papadopoulos instructed people to kill Denktas by saying 'shoot him like a dog', when Denktas was caught by Greek Cypriot police while he was trying to secretly enter the island on a fishing boat. Denktas, who told his secret to Greek Cypriot newspaper Politis, said that ''if Makarios didn't prevent it, I would be killed in 1967.''

MILITARY TO STRESS ITS EUROPEAN STANCE
Deputy Chief of General Staff Gen. Yasar Buyukanit, who is one of the authorized persons for talking on behalf of General Staff Headquarters, will talk on May 29 to get rid of 'anti-western impression'. Soldiers will confirm their stance favouring European Union (EU) membership of Turkey with a symposium to be held on May 29. Buyukanit will give the message to Turkish people, EU and the United States that according to Turkish Armed Forces, the future of country was in West, not in East.

ERDOGAN: ''WE OWN THE FAITH OF 1919 TODAY''
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who attended the opening of similar of Bandirma ship, said, ''the struggle which had started from Samsun carried us to today.'' Erdogan said people of present were acting with the same faith with those who had suffered on May 19, 1919 and had traveled the struggle of independence.

HOSPITAL TO BAGHDAD
Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul, who said that there were not any problems between Turkey and the United States, stated, ''our interest to Iraq is also continuing on the same way. Our ambassador has gone there and we will open two hospitals in Baghdad and Kirkuk on coming days.''

GREEK CYPRIOTS FIND DENKTAS MORE SUCCESSFUL
A total of 55 percent of the Greek Cypriot people support the recent policies of TRNC President Rauf Denktas and find them more successful when compared to the policies of the Greek Cypriot administration. A survey was carried out by the Greek Cypriot newspaper Politis to examine the opinion of Greek Cypriots about the recent policies of both sides on the island. While 55 percent of Greek Cypriot people found the recent policies of Denktas more successful, only 26 percent of them found their administration more successful.
