ADANA - President Rauf Denktas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on Saturday described statement of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in which he said Greek Cypriot citizens could enter Turkey without visa as of May 22, as an appropriate decision.
Responding to the question of reporters, Denktas said it was a good will decision, and that he believed it would be beneficial.
''I hope Greece will respond similarly. We had been introduced to Greek Cypriots as a collapsed, illiterate, and cruel society. We opened them the doors and they saw us. Naturally this will help formation of balance in a future compromise,'' he noted.
Denktas said this decision of Turkey would prove those people that Turkey was not a country that collapsed and that was in difficult situation in economic means.
Denktas said they would naturally begin to think in a different way if they see Turkey's bigness, hospitality, and humanity. ''Such kind of contacts bring benefits,'' he stated.
