CEYHAN - President Rauf Denktas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said on Saturday that they were accused as they called for a partnership based on rights, equality and principles.
Speaking at a ceremony, Denktas pointed out the recent developments experienced on Cyprus, adding that, ''they do their best to divide us. They want to separate us from our Turkish brothers.''
Denktas said, ''they want to create confusion in us. Efforts are underway to impose plans on us. They propose plans which will give Cyprus under the sovereignty of Greek Cypriots. They put pressure on us to accept the plans.''
Denktas said there was also pressure on Turkey about Cyprus, stating that, ''they tell Turkey, 'solve Cyprus question if you want to enter the EU. Get rid of Denktas, put pressure on him.' Thus Turkey's rights on Cyprus will be lifted and 60-80 thousand Greek Cypriots will settle in Turkish Cypriots. Not even one Turkish soldier will remain on Cyprus.''
Denktas said efforts were underway to put Annan plan onto the negotiation table again, stating that, ''there is still danger on Cyprus. We are still accused as we call for a partnership based on rights, equality and principles of two states.''
