Tuzmen: Current Currency Level Is A Little Difficult For Exporters

ANKARA - State Minister Kursad Tuzmen said on Wednesday that the current currency level was a little bit difficult for exporters.
Following the Turkey-Kyrgyzstan Third Joint Economic Commission (JEC) meeting, Tuzmen answered questions of reporters.
Replying a question about foreign exchange currency, Tuzmen said the currency would be balanced within itself, and if this continued like this, it might cause problem in proportion ratio of exports on imports.
Noting that cheap imports increased imports pressure, Tuzmen said, ''proportion ratio of exports on imports is important. I believe that this currency would again rise to its normal level. And later it will be balanced. We experienced such things in the past.''
Replying a question about a Central Bank intervention, Tuzmen said, ''I think that the Central Bank would easily take this issue out of the agenda in the coming period by taking a serious of early measures.''
When asked about the effects of current currency level on the exporters, Tuzmen said, ''the current currency level is a little bit difficult for the exporters. Because exporters are working by making self-sacrifice. In addition to their self-sacrifice, they get source transfer. I think that the currency would be balanced from the point of transfer through the point of profit. Actually we have taken an important place in the markets with our quality and prices. Our exportation has gained a momentum at almost thirty-thirty four percent. A few arrangements to maintain this momentum will also be helpful to the exporters.''
When asked what the total exports target would be, Tuzmen said, ''I hope it would be more than forty billion U.S. dollars.''
