AH- U.S., which received unexpected responses from Turkey during the Iraq operation, announced her disappointments and warnings about Turkey through her Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz. Wolfowitz accused Ankara on grounds of rejections to U.S. and seeking agreements with Saddam Hussein.
Wolfowitz said that, the real disappointment was that Turkey did not understand why a fight was done in Iraq. Saying that there were good and bad things about the relationships Wolfowitz stressed that, the good thing was that majority of the Turkish parliament’s support to U.S. but the bad thing was that U.S. did not receive their demands because of the voting method. Wolfowitz said that, U.S. did not found the support as she expected from the Turkish army and added that the army should say that supporting U.S. was an advantage for Turkey.
Wolfowitz said that, if Turkey and U.S. opened a new page, Turkey should not be suspicious and believe U.S. Wolfowitz said about the Iraq policy of Turkey that, Turkey should say that she made a mistake. Saying that Turkey paid bigger substitute than U.S. in the Iraq war, Wolfowitz stressed that; economical support package, which would be given to Turkey from U.S., could be much bigger than now and the stability in N. Iraq could be obtained more quickly.
