Gul: We Are Determined To Pass A New Package From Parliament

ANKARA - Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said on Tuesday, ''we are determined to pass a new package from the parliament till July 1, 2003 under the adjustment with the European Union (EU) laws.''
Speaking at the joint press conference he held together with Foreign Minister Askar Aitmatov of Kyrgyzstan, who is currently in Turkey on an official visit, Gul said, ''we have been working on a new adjustment package. We are determined to pass the package from the parliament before July 1.''
Responding a question on requests of the EU about role of the soldiers in civilian administration and yesterday's statement of the General Staff, Gul said, ''there is not any abnormal situation. In fact, my making an assessment is not important. Turkey's policy is clear. This policy includes a long period. All institutions in Turkey have the same opinion about the EU. The General Staff is among these institutions. We ask opinions of all ministries when we plan to amend a law or prepare a new law. These opinions include their sensitivities and recommendations. We assess them carefully.''
