MERSIN - The trade volume between Turkey and Britain is around 5 billion dollars and this figure can increase if the agricultural potential is assessed well.
Abdullah Sevinc, the Secretary General of ''British Trade Chamber in Turkey'' based in Ankara gave information about the things that should be done to improve trade between the two countries in the meeting organized by Mersin Trade and Industry Chamber Development Agency Project Coordinator's Office for businessmen and industrialists.
Sevinc said that the trade between the two countries was below 2 billion dollars five years ago, adding the figure was around 5 billion dollars today.
''Britain has the fourth biggest economy in the world. The number of employed persons is 28,5 million and the majority of them work in the service sector. Britain's imports reached double of its exports recently. I don't think that can compete with Turkey particularly in agriculture sector in respect of quality and cost. We can increase our trade volume by assessing that.''
Mersin Trade and Industry Chamber Executive Board President Kadri Saman said in his part that they carried out studies to increase the commercial activities between the two countries, adding that this was only possible by ensuring information to both sides.
