Turkey Waits For Implementation Of Usd 1.5 Billion Tenders Under Oil-for-food Program

WASHINGTON - Thirty-four Turkish companies participated in a meeting which was held in Washington D.C., the United States on rebuilding of Iraq.
Speaking at the meeting, Turkish-Iraqi Business Council Chairman Ercument Aksoy said that they were waiting for implementation of 1.5 billion U.S. dollars of contracts they had signed under the U.N.'s oil-for-food program.
''Turkish companies won 1.5 billion U.S. dollars of tender in Iraq under the oil-for-food program. We are expecting implementation of these tenders until formation of a post-sanctions program on Iraq,'' he said.
Aksoy stressed that Turkey was about to open second border gate with Iraq, allowing rapid transfer of goods from the border.
He added, ''under this, Turkey is also making preparations for a new railway which directly connects Turkey to Baghdad.''
