RUMSFELD LEAVES WITHOUT SAYING 'HI' TO TURKEY
U.S. Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld who paid visits to regional countries after the end of the war in Iraq to thank them for their assistance to the U.S. during the war, didn't visit Turkey. His plane stayed in Incirlik Base in Adana for one hour and he later left for London.

HAYRUNNISA GUL IN EU WITH HER HEAD SCARF
Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul who does not take his wife to official invitations in Turkey, took his wife to the unofficial meeting of EU member and candidate countries' foreign ministers in Kastellorizo island of Greece. Foreign Minister of EU Term President Greece George Papandreou kissed the hand of Hayrunnisa Gul and said ''welcome'' to her.

THERE IS POLAND, BUT NOT TURKEY
The U.S. decided to divide Iraq into three for stability and security of Iraq. The stability force which will be formed in Iraq will be commanded by the U.S., Britain and Poland. Turkey will only watch the developments. Russia, Germany and France which opposed the war, are not in the reconstruction process of Iraq.

WE CAN RECOGNIZE GREEK CYPRIOTS
Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said that the number one priority of Turkey and the government was EU. Noting that the embargo on TRNC had to be lifted, Gul gave the signal that in return to that, Turkey could take certain steps that can include 'recognition' of the Greek Cypriot administration.

VISIT THAT BOOSTS GUL'S MORALE
Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou and his wife welcomed Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul and his wife very warmly in Kastellorizo island of Greece. When asked his views about Hayrunnisa Gul's wearing head scarf, Papandreou said that ''this does not concern us. Everybody is free in his/her clothes. This is not a problem for EU.''

TURKEY AND GREECE REACH AGREEMENT ABOUT LAND MINES
Turkish and Greek Foreign Ministers Gul and Papandreou announced that the two countries would simultaneously present the United Nations with accords they had ratified Ottawa Treaty which banned landmines. Papandreou said that the friendship between the two countries further improved by this initiative, adding the borders between Turkey and Greece would strengthen the friendship.''

AKP CRITICIZED HARSHLY
The government of Justice and Development Party (AKP) was harshly criticized during the industrial chambers council meeting of the Union of Chambers and Stock Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB). Stressing that government made mistakes in a period when the Iraqi war was taking place, TOBB Chairman Rifat Hisarcýklýoglu said that the reason of not having serious problems during the last two months was the structural transformations undertaken during the last two years. Hisarcýklýoglu said that the government was at crossroads regarding the economy:''the government will either continue implementing the economic reform programme or cause spoiling of all the sacrifices Turkey made to date, by acting impatiently.''

19 STUDENTS ARE STILL UNDER DEBRIS
The number of death toll in Bingol earthquake increased to 151 and the number of wounded persons increased to 521. There are still 19 students under the debris in Celtiksuyu Boarding School.

INFLATION FIGURES PLEASE TURKEY
The inflation rate in April 2003 was below than expected and it strengthened the positive expectations in economy. State Institute of Statistics (DIE) announced that the wholesale prices increased by 1.8 percent, while consumer prices increased by 2.1 percent in April 2003 when compared to March 2003. The annual inflation rate in wholesale prices index was 35.1 percent and in consumer prices index was 29.5 percent in April 2003. Meanwhile, according to 12-month averages as of April of 2003, inflation rate was 37.8 percent in wholesale prices and 33.8 percent in consumer prices.

EU ROAD COMES TO KAS
Turkey and Greece hosted EU foreign ministers. Greek Cypriot foreign minister was among the delegation that came to Kas. For the first time EU candidate countries attended the unofficial EU foreign ministers meeting and Turkey, which is a non-EU country, for the first time hosted part of the meeting.

EU SUMMIT IN KAS
Foreign ministers of 15 EU member countries and ten countries which signed membership agreements with EU firstly came together in Kastellorizo island of Greece and then they came to Kas town which is very close to Kastellorizo. Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul, Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou walked around in Kas town of southern Antalya province together with their wives.

TURKISH-GREEK BORDER TO BE BORDER OF FRIENDSHIP
Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou came to Kas port of southern Antalya province together with foreign ministers of EU member and candidate countries and declared that Turkey was a safe region. This nice gesture which was made to overcome the negative effects of the Iraqi war on Turkish tourism, was also important in respect of bringing EU foreign ministers in a non-EU country for the first time.
