RHODES - Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul came to Rhodes island of Greece early Sunday together with 27 foreign ministers who attended the unofficial meeting of EU foreign ministers.
Gul said that the issues of Iraq and the Middle East peace process were mainly taken up during the meetings, adding that he explained the views of Turkey about those issues.
Gul stated that they discussed almost all issues that concerned the two countries with Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou, adding that the approach of Papandreou was positive. ''The relations have to be further improved,'' Gul said.
Gul said that he told Papandroeu that the embargo in Cyprus had to be lifted, adding that ''the results of all of these will be seen in the coming days.''
Gul and his wife attended a Turkish wedding ceremony in Rhodes when they arrived on the island.
EU Foreign Ministers who attended the reception held by Abdullah Gul in Kas town of southern Antalya province before leaving for Rhodes, walked on Kas streets and made shopping. Citizens were particularly interested in Foreign Minister Gul and his Greek counterpart Papandreou.
