Earthquake In Turkey- Aftershocks May Be More Than Magnitude Five

ISTANBUL - Gulay Barbarasoglu, the head of the Bogazici University Kandilli Observatory and Seismology Institute said there could be aftershocks more than magnitude five, recommending those not to enter their damaged houses.
Barborosoglu said aftershocks of the quake, with a preliminary magnitude of 6.4, would continue for sometime.
Barborosoglu said, ''as the quake is massive, its aftershocks will also be massive. Damaged houses should not be used.''
Barborosoglu said 50 aftershocks were recorded in the region so far following the quake, stating that the biggest aftershock was measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale.
Barborosoglu said the recent biggest quake had occurred on May 22, 1971 in Bingol, stating that 900 people died in that quake.
50 STUDENTS RESCUED FROM CELTIKSUYU DORMITORY
A total of 50 students were rescued who were stranded under the debris in Celtiksuyu Dormitory in southeastern Bingol Province.
Dormitory collapsed following the massive earthquake.
Bingol Deputy Governor Huseyin Oner said rescue efforts were underway in the dormitory, stating that 50 students were rescued so far.
