ANKARA - National Security Council (NSC) said on Wednesday that the importance of secularism principle which was one of the basic peculiarities of the state and necessity of protecting it fastidiously was underlined at the meeting.
A statement was issued after regular monthly meeting of NSC which was held in Presidential Place under the leadership of President Ahmet Necdet Sezer and lasted 7.5 hours.
The statement said, ''National Security Council held its regular monthly meeting on April 30, 2003. Internal and external developments which affected security and public order of Turkey were discussed at the meeting. To this end, the importance of secularism principle which is one of the basic peculiarities of the state and the necessity of protecting it fastidiously was underlined at the meeting.''
''Developments regarding Iraq were assessed in detail and it was decided that developments should be watched closely and necessary contacts should be carried on at the meeting,'' the statement noted.
The statement added that all developments regarding Cyprus were taken up and noted that the Council was also informed about the latest developments about oil pipelines and measures which should be taken were discussed at the meeting of NSC.
