KIRKUK - Red Crescent Director General Fatih Evren said on Tuesday that people in Kirkuk waited for aid which would come from Turkey.
Red Crescent's aid convoy which departed from Ankara came to Kirkuk.
Evren told reporters in Turkmen Front office that they were very pleased with being here on behalf of Turkish nation with 23 personnel and seven trucks.
Stating that people in Kirkuk had many problems, Evren said, ''there is not any medicine or medical equipment in the hospital of Turkmens. Doctors and people have many problems. We will proceed from Kirkuk to Baghdad. We will distribute aid materials in Baghdad. Later, we will return to Kirkuk and distribute aid materials. People in Kirkuk wait for aid which will come from Turkey. We aim to open an office and depot here. We want to help people there.''
Justice and Development Party (AK Party) Balikesir deputy Turhan Comez, who accompanies the convoy, said that if Red Crescent set up a hospital in Kirkuk, he thought that he would serve as a doctor together with doctors who would come from Turkey.
Republican People's Party (CHP) Mersin deputy Huseyin Guler said that they came to Kirkuk with seven trucks carrying water and medical equipment and added that Red Crescent planned to establish a hospital and open a depot here.
Guler said the aid material cost 450 billion Turkish liras (280 thousand U.S. dollars).
