GUL: ''LIAISON TEAMS CARRY WEAPONS FOR SECURITY''
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said that Turkish liaison teams acting in northern Iraq provided the security of humanitarian aid convoys, stating that they did not carry any weapons apart from their own. Gul, who addressed the Diplomacy Journalists Association General Assembly, made evaluations about foreign policy.
Stating that war in Iraq lasted shorter than expected, Gul said they called on the post war situation to be normalized. Gul reminded that the region suffered a lot for a long time. Expressing his belief that a new order would be set up, Gul said, ''everybody expects this rebuilding to take place in a way that will not damage Iraq's territorial integrity. It should be an administration in which all peoples in Iraq would be represented.''

WEXLER SAYS HE IS HOPEFUL THAT TURKISH COMPANIES WILL TAKE THEIR PLACE IN EFFORTS REGARDING RE-BUILDING PROCESS OF IRAQ
U.S. House of Representatives member and Turkey Friendship Group co-chairman Robert Wexler met with exporters. Wexler said he was hopeful that Turkish companies would be included in efforts regarded with rebuilding process of Iraq. Wexler met with exporters at a meeting held in Hilton Hotel hosted by Turkish Exporters Assembly Chairman Oguz Satici. Wexler said that military relations between Turkey and the United States were positive, and that they wanted to reflect those relations to economic relations.

NSC IS NOT A MATCH
Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said he conveyed the President and the Chief of General Staff that they did not have a special target. I will also convey it in National Security Council (NSC) meeting. NSC is not a match. It will not be right to go to the meeting with this idea. In fact, I did not think that the issue would pave ways to such a discussion. Of course, more care will be shown.

BUSINESSMEN CALLED FOR APPOINTMENT, U.S. SAID ''WAIT''
White House gave a clear response to the request of Turkish businessmen for appointment aiming to enliven relations with the United States. They said, ''don't force us. We are still offended by Turkey because of the motion. Let us leave it to time.''

FIRST LIGHT SHED ON GOVERNMENT
Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal said attitude on April 23 are a warning to everybody. He said, ''first, we will be careful, then we will attract attention, later we will make warning, and in the end, we will give alarm,'' stating that, ''the first light has been shed.''

Finance Minister Kemal Unakitan left for London to hold contacts with privatization of various institutions and brief foreign investors about the tenders in this respect.
Unakitan, who will meet with various foreigners, will participate in meetings regarded with privatization of National Lottery, the State Monopoly (Tekel) and TUPRAS. Unakitan is expected to return to Turkey on Thursday.

PKK ATTACK IN BINGOL: TWO SOLDIERS DIE TWO OTHERS WOUNDED
Two soldiers died and two others were wounded in a clash which erupted between the patrolling security forces and terrorist PKK/KADEK organization.
Bingol Governor Huseyin Avni Cos said two soldiers died and two others were injured at the clash.
Injured soldiers were immediately hospitalized.

RELIGIOUS CEREMONY IN KARPAZ
Free passages between Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Greek Cypriot side continued on Sunday. TRNC government opened the gates at 6.00 a.m. instead of 8.00 a.m. to help Greek Cypriot people who wanted to pass to Karpaz and other regions due to Easter holiday. Thousands of Greek Cypriot people participated in the religious ceremony which was held in Apostopolos Andreas Monastery in Karpaz.
Tourism Ministry distributed maps and brochures to Greek Cypriot people who passed to TRNC at gates.

ERDOGAN DESCRIBES PROBLEMS WHICH STEM FROM PRACTICES OF GOVERNMENT AS ''DIFFERENT AGENDA''
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that they would not mix the agenda of Turkey with other agendas and added that they would try not to be in favor of tension. Erdogan replied to questions of reporters after the consultation meeting which was held in Taksim International Abant Palace. Upon a question regarding meeting of National Security Council (NSC) on April 30, Erdogan said, ''the agenda of Turkey should not be mixed with other agendas.''

TORTURERS APPLY TO ECHR
Nine of the ten policemen, who were sentenced to imprisonment terms in Manisa case, applied to European Court of Justice (ECHR) on charges that they were not tried fairly, and demanded compensation worth of 823 billion Turkish lira.
M. Oktar Aykut, the lawyer of the convicts, confessed in the petition that there is torture in Turkey.

IRAQ GOOD NEWS TO BUSINESSMEN

UNAKITAN HAS BUSY PROGRAM
Finance Minister Kemal Unakitan arrived in London to hold contacts regarding privatization of various institutions and to brief foreign investors about those tenders. Turkey's London Embassy officials welcomed Unakitan who arrived in London at 10.30 local time. Unakitan will start his contacts in London on Monday. He will meet with officials of various finance and industry institutions and inform foreign investors about details of privatization program in Turkey and the tenders until May 1.

COLD WEATHER LEAVES TURKEY
Warm weather will be influential across Turkey as of Monday. The temperatures will start to increase 10-12 degrees as of today. State Meteorology Affairs Directorate General said that the temperatures will start to increase in western region of the country on Monday.

GOVERNMENT REDUCES TENSION PRIOR TO NSC
Tension, which escalated after boycotting of April 23 reception, turned the attention to the National Security Council (NSC) meeting which will take place on Wednesday.
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan gave answers to the questions which reduced tension. Underlining that they would not be a side of the tension, Erdogan said, ''we will not get involved in the mistake to confuse Turkey's agenda with different agendas. There are not artificial problems in our agenda. There is economy, unemployment and exports.''

POLICE FOLLOW F-TYPE CONVICTS WHO ARE PARDONED DUE TO HEALTH REASONS
Interior Ministry started to closely cover those who had been sentenced to imprisonment terms on charges of getting terrorist activities, and who were later pardoned by President Ahmet Necdet Sezer after Forensic Medicine put the diagnosis of ''continuos disease'' because of the death fasting they started. The ministry sent a circular to the governorships and said those people continued organizational activities after they were discharged.
