ANKARA - Iranian First Vice President Mohammed Reza Aref came to Ankara on Friday upon the invitation of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
State Minister Ali Babacan welcomed Aref and his wife at Esenboga Airport.
Such a high ranking visit between the two countries takes place for the first time since the visit of the then Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan to Iran in 1996.
Aref who will be received by President Ahmet Necdet Sezer and who will meet with Prime Minister Erdogan, will also attend the Turkey-Iran Joint Economic Commission meeting in Ankara.
Aref will participate in the meeting of Foreign Economic Relations Council and meet with business circles in Istanbul.
