High-level Libyan delegation arrives in Cairo

CAIRO (AA) – A high-level Libyan delegation arrived in Egyptian capital Cairo on Monday, hours after Egyptian warplanes carried out airstrikes against targets of a group allied to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militant movement in eastern Libya.

The Libyan delegation is headed by deputy prime minister Abdel-Salam Mohamed Ali al-Badri.

The visit comes only hours after Egyptian fighter jets struck ISIL targets in eastern Libya after the group published a video showing the execution of 21 Egyptian nationals.

An Egyptian diplomat said earlier on Monday that his country was seeking to form an international coalition to participate in strikes against ISIL targets in Libya.

Libya's internationally-backed parliament had earlier condemned the execution of the Egyptian nationals, while the Libyan army said that it had coordinated the strikes with the Egyptian army.

Libya has been suffering turmoil since the ouster and subsequent killing of longstanding ruler Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
