Atletico Madrid smash city rivals Real Madrid in derby

ANKARA - Atletico Madrid thrash their city rivals Real Madrid 4-0 in Spanish La Liga's matchday 22 game on Saturday at Vicente Calderon Stadium.

In the 14th minute home team Atletico Madrid midfielder Tiago scored the opening goal of the derby. Portuguese midfielder smashed the ball without trapping it; Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas tried to hold but he fumbled it.

Four minutes later Atletico doubled the score, with Spanish midfielder Saul Niguez finding the net with a bicycle kick. The ball clipped the woodwork and went in. Casillas could not even move: 2-0.

Atletico Madrid's French winger Antoine Griezmann made it three in the 67th minute. Turkish star of "Atleti", Arda Turan crossed the ball from right. Croatian striker Mario Mandzukic flicked it, and Griezmann scored in the far post: 3-0.

It seemed that Real Madrid could not get out of shock.

Through the end of the game, Croatian Mandzukic's header made the score 4-0. Fernando Torres produced the assist.

In this way Atletico Madrid coming in third in the table narrowed the gap to four points against the league leaders Real Madrid having 54 points.
