Billionaire to pay Russian football head coach’s salary

MOSCOW – A Russian businessman has decided to intervene to avert a crisis over payment of salaries for the head coach and general manager of the national football team, it was announced Thursday.

According to Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov’s press service, he would give a soft loan of around $6 million to the Russian Football Union to clear an outstanding debt to Head Coach Fabio Capello and Oreste Cinquini, the team’s general manager, the Russian news agency TASS reported.

Capello and Cinquini were both unpaid since June 2014, TASS added.
