ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines (AA) - Philippine police have arrested an Australian man over the killing of a 17-year-old Filipino girl, local media reported Wednesday.

Ali Ali, 42, was arrested in the central Philippines city of Dumaguete, Negros Oriental province, on Feb. 1, broadcaster ABS-CBN News said.

He had travelled to the Philippines from Melbourne after meeting the alleged victim on Facebook and arrived in Dipolog City, 46 miles (75 kilometers) from Dumaguete, on Jan. 28.

Two days later the teenager’s naked body was in a motel room. Police said she had suffered head injuries.

ABS-CBN News reported that Ali had admitted punching the teenager and hitting her with a shoe after she bit his penis.

Police have filed a murder complaint against him with the state prosecutor. He faces a 40-year prison term if convicted.
