Morocco postpones municipal elections

RABAT (AA) – The Moroccan government on Tuesday postponed the municipal elections – originally slated for June – until September.

"The rescheduling [of the elections] was requested by the opposition and approved by the government," Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane told a parliamentary session.

Benkirane called on Moroccans to register for voting.

"It is a duty for political parties to encourage the people to participate in the democratic process in order to express themselves," he said.
