Iranian FM due in Uganda Monday

Tehran's top diplomat is currently on an African tour of Kenya, Uganda, Burundi and Tanzania

KAMPALA (AA) - Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif is expected to arrive in Kampala late Monday on a two-day working visit as part of a regional tour.

According to a statement by Uganda's Foreign Affairs Ministry, Zarif's visit aims to strengthen existing political relations and to effectively promote economic, cultural and technological ties between both countries.

He is expected to meet Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and will, among other things, sign a memorandum of understanding on political and diplomatic consultations between Uganda and Iran.

Zarif will be accompanied by a delegation of senior government officials and a business delegation of 11 top companies and institutions.

Tehran's top diplomat is currently in Nairobi, the start of his African tour that will also take him to Burundi and Tanzania.
