6 'militants' killed by drone strike in Pakistan

KARACHI - At least six suspected militants were killed and four wounded in a drone strike in Pakistan's northwestern North Waziristan tribal region Wednesday.

A Pakistan army official said, on condition of anonymity, that an unmanned predator fired a missile on a compound in the far-flung Shawal valley, near the Afghan border.

The compound was completely destroyed in the strike -- which was the fifth this month -- the official said.

More than 3,450 people have been killed in more that 400 U.S. drone strikes in Pakistan since 2004.

According to international think tanks and human rights groups, including Amnesty International and the Bureau of Investigative Journalism, 70 percent of drone victims were unarmed civilians.
