Goal line technology to be used in Italy

- Italian Football Federation President Tavecchio says goal line technology will be used next season.

ROME (AA) - Goal line technology will be used next season in Italy, according to Italian Football Federation President Carlo Tavecchio on Thursday.

The Italian Football Federation's board approved the recommendation put forward by Italy's top two football league unions as well as the players' union in Italy in a Federal Committee Meeting held on Dec. 17, 2014.

Tavecchio said they think that goal line technology will be beneficial and will be used in matches next season.

The Italian media stated that the technology will be implemented in Serie A as of the 2015-16 football season. It might also be used in the promotion games from Serie B to Serie A as well.

Goal line technology is a method used for helping referees by showing whether the ball crosses the goal line or not. The technology, which is currently being used in English Premier League matches, was also used in the 2014 FIFA World Cup held in Brazil.
