Hamas slams 'rude' US criticism of Meshaal's Turkey visit

GAZA CITY – Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has slammed U.S. criticisms of a recent visit to Turkey by group leader Khaled Meshaal as "rude."

"Recent U.S. criticism of Meshaal's visit to Turkey shows the U.S. administration to be a true enemy of the [Palestinian] national cause," Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zurhi said in a statement.

"Hamas rests assured that Turkey will not be affected by such rude, racist assertions," he added.

Meshaal visited Turkey last week to take part in the ruling AK Party's annual congress.

On Thursday, U.S. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters that Washington was concerned about relations between Hamas and Turkey.

"We have urged the government of Turkey to press Hamas to reduce tensions and prevent violence," Psaki had said.
