Israel hails Qatar's reported move to expel Meshaal

JERUSALEM (AA) – The Israeli Foreign Ministry on Tuesday praised reports that Qatar had decided to "expel" top Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal.

"Foreign Ministry welcomes the [reported] decision of Qatar to expel the head of Hamas' political bureau, Khaled Meshaal," ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon said in a statement.

He said his ministry had long lobbied Qatar to take such a decision.

However, leading Hamas member Ezzat al-Rashq has denied reports that Meshaal had been expelled from Qatar.

"Reports of Meshaal's departure from Doha are groundless," al-Rashq told The Anadolu Agency on Tuesday.

There has been no immediate comment on the issue from Qatar.
