Latvia offers support to Turkey's EU bid

- Turkey's bid to open new chapters in its pursuit of EU membership has gained the support of Latvia.

RIGA, Latvia (AA) – Latvia has offered its support in Turkey's bid to open chapters 23 and 24, covering judiciary, justice, freedom and fundamental rights, as it pursues EU membership.

In Latvia’s capital, Riga, Turkey's EU Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu met with Latvia's Deputy Parliament Spokesperson Inese Libina-Egnere and Chairman on Committee of Foreign Affairs Ojars Eriks Kalnins on Wednesday.

According to diplomatic sources discussions concerning bilateral relations, Turkey's EU membership bid and Turkey's non-permanent membership of UN's Security Council took place.

Cavusoglu is also expected to meet with the Latvian Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma and Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics.
