ASTANA, Kazakhstan – Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbayev approved Friday the new prime minister-led cabinet, the presidential press office announced.

Karim Massimov was appointed to form the new government Wednesday after the resignation of former prime minister Serik Akhmetov, who will now serve as defense minister.

Bakytzhan Sagintayev, Gulsara Abdikalikova, Asset Issekesev and Bakhyt Sultanov were appointed as the country's new deputy prime ministers.

Meanwhile, Oil and Gas Minister Uzakbay Karabalin will hold the same position in the 17-minister government.
