Turkey’s EU minister calls on Macedonian Turks to be in unity and solidarity

Turkey’s state minister for the European Union (EU) and chief negotiator Saturday called on Macedonian citizens of Turkish origin to be in unity and solidarity.

Egemen Bagis met Macedonian citizens of Turkish origin in Skopje, and said they were honorary ambassadors of Turkey.

"Every one of you are important for us and you are Turkey’s image," Bagis said.

Bagis asked the Macedonian Turks to attach importance to education, getting organized and solidarity.

Paying a two-day formal visit to Macedonia as the guest of Vasko Naumovski, the deputy prime minister for European integration, Bagis began his talks in Skopje on Friday, and first had a meeting with Naumovski. Their meeting was followed by a joint press conference.

Egemen Bagis later met Kenan Hasip, the Macedonian co-chair of Turkish-Macedonian Parliamentary Friendship Group, and Peter Poparsov, the head of the Macedonian Parliamentary Committee on European Affairs.

Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov received Bagis in the afternoon, and Bagis later had a meeting with Macedonian Foreign Minister Antonio Milososki and gave a conference on integration with the EU.

Bagis is expected to depart from Macedonia later on Saturday.
