ANKARA - Turkish President Abdullah Gul said on Tuesday that Central Asia was one of the most important topics of Turkey's foreign policy.

Speaking to reporters at Ankara's Esenboga Airport prior to his departure to Kyrgyzstan, President Gul said, "Turkey has always attached high importance to relations and cooperation with the regional countries with which it has common history and cultural ties."

"I will pay formal visits to Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Turkey has been assisting those countries since they declared independence and will continue to do so. I believe that the visits will help improvement of existing close relations," Gul added.

Gul said he would meet with high level executives of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. "I will address Kyrgyzstan's Parliament, meet with Turkish businessmen and Turkish citizens living in those countries and visit formal and private schools," he said.
