We Want To See Perfect Economic Relations With Estonia, President Gul

TALLINN - Turkish President Abdullah Gul said Friday that he wanted to see perfect economic relations with Estonia, a country with which Turkey has perfect political relations.

President Gul and his Estonian counterpart Toomas Hendrik Ilves addressed businessmen at the Turkey-Estonia Business Council meeting in Tallinn on Friday.

"We want to see excellent economic relations with Estonia. There could be joint investments in the fields of information technology, construction and tourism," Gul said.

"Trade volume between Turkey and Estonia continues to grow. The trade volume by the end of 2008 would reach 500 million USD. Investments in Estonia would open doors to other Baltic countries," Gul stressed.

"The Turkish Airlines (THY) would begin direct flights between Turkey and Estonia in 2010. Accordingly, Estonians would be able to spend a sunny weekend in Antalya," Gul noted.

President Ilves, on his part, said that Turkey and Estonia have many common traits.

"Turkey and Estonia are together in NATO and will soon be together in the European Union (EU)," Ilves said.

We will continue to work with Turkey in economic and political spheres to help Turkey`s EU membership bid, Ilves said.

Turkey is a prominent market for Estonia, Ilves said.

Aside from tourism, joint investments can take place in communications and environment technologies, Ilves also said.
