Phone tapping and bugging scandals caused booming sales of GSM "jammer" device that jams GSM radio signals. Demand mostly comes from businessmen and artists.
"The price range is between 380 TL and 30,000 TL for jammer devices which can stop all mobile phone conversations and bugging," says Mustafa Ender, executive of a company selling jammers.
"Another device that spots hidden cameras starts from 575 TL," he says.

The President of the United States, Barack Obama, is expected to pay a visit to Turkey in April. Foreign Minister Ali Babacan said that Obama would visit Turkey to discuss bilateral relations but he wouldn't focus on the Alliance of Civilizations meeting.

RESPONSIBLE FOR 67 COUNTRIES
Aysegul Ildeniz, an executive of technology giant Intel, is responsible for 67 countries as the Manager in charge of the Middle East, Turkey and Africa. She has been working to promote use of computers by women in the past four years.

NO ROOM FOR WOMEN IN LOCAL ELECTIONS
Four political parties having seats at the parliament named only 142 female candidates to run in the upcoming local elections in 2,876 electoral districts. Rate of female candidates is only 5 percent.

ARMENIAN PROBLEM BEFORE OBAMA'S VISIT
U.S. President Barack Obama is expected to pay a visit to Turkey in April. Turkey did not accept the United States' requests about Afghanistan and Iraq in advance. On the other hand, the United States did not assure the Turkish party that President Obama would not use the word 'genocide' while talking about the incidents of 1915.

Alemitu Bekele Degfa of Turkey won gold medal in women's 3,000 m at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Torino, Italy.

TEARFUL FUNERAL FOR PILOTS
A funeral took place for two pilots who lost their lives when a military helicopter crashed near the central province of Kayseri on Saturday. President Abdullah Gul and General Staff Chief Gen. Ilker Basbug were in attendance at the funeral to pay their last tribute to the pilots.

NATIONAL ATHLETE RUNS FOR GOLD
Alemitu Bekele Degfa of Turkey won gold medal in women's 3,000 m at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Torino, Italy.

KURDISH PRAYERS ON TRT-6
Sunday marked the birth anniversary of Holy Prophet Muhammad. Prayers were made in Kurdish language on state run TRT-6 channel for the first time in Turkish history. Thousands of Turkish citizens listened to Kurdish prayers in eastern and south-eastern Anatolia.

ULUSOY TRAVEL SIGNS PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT WITH GERMAN COMPANY
Turkey's Ulusoy Travel Company has signed a partnership agreement with German Deuthsche Bahn Company and wishes to operate the speed train between Ankara and Istanbul. Ulusoy also wishes to have a greater share in the inner-city transportation throughout Turkey.

BIG SPEECH NOT IN TURKEY
Following a surprising statement from U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that U.S. President Barack Obama would visit Turkey in a month, there was the controversy whether Obama would address the Islamic world from Turkey.
However, one of the prominent U.S. dailies, the Washington Post, asserted that Obama would speak in another country.

IRAN REPORT FROM CANKAYA TO WHITE HOUSE
During U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's visit to Ankara, Turkish and U.S. officials agreed on a number of issues especially on Iran. President Abdullah Gul will convey Washington's moderate messages to President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad of Iran where he will travel on Tuesday. Gul will also convey Ahmedinejad's response to U.S. President Barack Obama through diplomatic ways.
IMF NOT A MAGIC WAND, SAYS SIMSEK
State Minister for economy, Mehmet Simsek spoke to daily Hurriyet.
"International Monetary Fund (IMF) is not a magic wand. However, a deal with the IMF would have significant contributions to ease concerns over the need for external financing," Simsek said.
"At a time of fast-moving global economic downturn, it would also be wrong to say (forget IMF) or (we have signed the deal with the IMF and we are relieved). If global markets get into normalization, Turkish lira would not lose value as there is no IMF deal."

The U.S. media described the upcoming visit of President Barack Obama to Turkey as the symbol of a deep alliance between Turkey and the USA. President Obama is expected to be in Turkey between April 6 and 8 following the NATO Summit.
NUMBER OF FOREIGN BANKERS ARRIVING IN TURKEY INCREASES
Turkey's Akbank's senior executive Hulya Kefeli said that the number of foreign bankers arriving in Turkey had increased. "There has not been a decline in the number of foreign bankers entering the Turkish market. Most of the time we see foreign bankers entering the Turkish market rather than vice versa," Kefeli stressed.
